May the 4th be with you! Yes, it’s Star Wars Day once again, but these past few years have been a little different. For the longest time, the list of greatest Star Wars vehicles remained stagnant. But since Disney revived the franchise and cranks out films every year, we get to see how the new ships stack up against the old.
With “Solo: A Star Wars Story” just around the corner, we ranked the 10 best vehicles in the galaxy.
10. Naboo N-1 Starfighter
The prequels get all the hate but the ships in these movies stand above Jar-Jar Binks and the cheesy dialogue. The Naboo N-1 Starfighter is like a classic hot rod – smooth, with round edges and a beautiful paint job. It’s like the choice fighter of a Madison Avenue executive.
9. Super Star Destroyer
Did you think the Emperor of the galaxy was going to cruise around in a regular Star Destroyer? The Sith Lord may not have a pretty face but he does have a taste for magnificent ships. Maybe he was so distracted with his ride that he didn’t see the good in Darth Vader before getting tossed over the edge.
8. Mon Calamari Cruiser
“It’s a trap!” The Mon Calamari Cruise has history, not just with Admiral Ackbar, but again in “The Last Jedi” when Vice Admiral Holdo used the ship in a kamikaze attack against the First Order.
The All-Terrain Armored Transport was one of the worst weapons on Hoth. It sent devastating blasts into the Rebel bases and was invincible against enemy firepower. Unfortunately for the Empire, the bigger you are, the harder you fall.
6. Anikan Skywalker’s Pod Racer
Anikan’s pod race was the first glimpse of the soon-to-be-Jedi’s force capabilities as the kid from Tatooine won the improbable race that would earn his freedom and start the chain of events that would produce the galaxy’s most infamous villain.
5. Speeder Bike
The Endor chase scene in “Return of the Jedi” was groundbreaking for the 1980s and is still one of the best chase scenes to this day. These bikes were crashed and sliced apart every which way as Storm Troopers were in hot pursuit of Luke and Leia. There’s no telling how fast they move, but chances are it’s quicker than any motorcycle on the highway.
4. Poe Dameron’s X-Wing Fighter
You know how there’s the Ferrari Enzo and the rest are just Ferraris? That’s how Poe Dameron’s black-and-orange X-Wing Fighter stands out from the rest. The new Star Wars movies establish Poe as one of the best pilots in the galaxy. It’s no wonder his ship gets to be the coolest.
3. Boba Fett’s Slave I
The bounty hunter’s transport, as well as his father/clone’s siblingship in “Attack of the Clones,” had an interesting orientation as it landed on its back and flew upright. It was a ship as unique as the villain who flew it.
2. Darth Vader’s Tie Fighter
Darth Vader’s custom Tie Fighter stood apart from the fleet with its menacing curved wings as it led the flight to stop Luke Skywalker and the team from destroying the Death Star (which isn’t in this list because it’s a space station, not a vehicle). The only shame behind this ship is that we didn’t get to see more of it, because it was stopped by the…
1. Millennium Falcon
Were you expecting anything else at number one? “The Millennium Falcon is the best ship in Star Wars,” is as sure a statement as “Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie.” In fact, there’s a solid argument that it’s the best ship in any movie or TV show. The Falcon plays hero in nearly every Star Wars film and will see its shiniest moment when it’s piloted by young Han in “Solo.”
