The Best Superhero Automotive Sidekicks

Superheroes have always had iconic vehicles to match their on-screen personas. Not every hero can fly like Superman or swing like Spiderman, so it makes sense they would have some wheels to help them get around. Some of these vehicles are so closely tied to the superhero brand that they’re almost as much a star as the heroes themselves. Check out our list below of favorite superhero cars.

1.) Batman’s Batmobile

From the campy days of Adam West to the grim Christian Bale Dark Knight series, the Batmobile has played a major role in Batman movies, TV shows, and comics alike. In all interpretations, the Batmobile is a highly customized vehicle with the latest technologies, weapons, and armor as well as a signature bat-like aesthetic. Batman uses the Batmobile to take crime fighting to the next level in pursuits, and the vehicle always seems to have an answer for whatever bad guys manage to throw at it. While the latest Batmobile “Tumbler” is undeniably awesome, we’ll always be partial to the afterburning jet engine powered version from Tim Burton’s films in 1989 and 1992.

2.) Captain America’s Motorcycle

While it may not be as famous as the Batmobile, Captain America has had a long love affair with motorcycles. Starting with his 1944 film introduction, the Cap has been seen riding a variety of bikes, but he seems to have a special fondness for the Harley Davidson. Captain America started off with a 1942 Harley WLA in the initial film, while in modern movies he rides several different customized Harleys, like a V-Rod, Softail Slim, and Street 750. These bikes not only have a unique aesthetic fit for the Captain, but also feature some gadgetry courtesy of Stark Industries like rocket launchers, flame throwers, and a self-destruct feature.

3.) Iron Man’s Audi R8

While Tony Stark’s Audi R8 models aren’t exactly filled with gadgets or weapons like other superheroes on this list, the R8 has become an integral part of Iron Man’s brand. In the original 2008 Iron Man movie, Stark used an original V8-powered R8 coupe to get around while not in the Iron Man suit, while an R8 V10 Spyder convertible filled the role in Iron Man 2. In Iron Man 3, Stark is seen driving a high-tech Audi R8 e-tron electric vehicle prototype. In the latest Age of Ultron film he’s behind the wheel of the newest second generation R8. This luxurious 2-door coupe is the ideal vehicle for the debonair Tony Stark.

4.) Green Hornet’s Black Beauty

The Green Hornet has a very close relationship with his ride, the Black Beauty, the car being almost as much a star as the hero himself. Black Beauty is a 1964-1966 Chrysler Imperial with a 500 horsepower GM V8 crate motor and a beefed up racing transmission. Naturally, it’s also packed with enough weapons to make James Bond green with envy, like machine guns, 12-gauge automatic shotguns, a flame thrower, and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles. It’s been armored and fitted with enough gadgets to help the Green Hornet and his sidekick Kato overthrow every villain they face.

5.) Black Panther’s Lexus LC500

Black Panther is king of the most advanced society on earth, Wakanda, so it’s natural he would have some advanced wheels of his own. Featured in the recent movie, King T’Challa drives a customized Lexus LC500, a striking luxury performance sedan that serves him well during a chase through the streets of Busan, South Korea. Black Panther’s LC500 is superior to the model we can buy, with a tough Wakandan Vibranium coating that makes it practically bullet proof, an arc-reactor, and self-sustaining fueling apparatus.
