TireBuyer.com, Official Tire Retailer of Seattle Sounders FC

It’s probably pretty obvious that here at TireBuyer Headquarters, we love tires. But here’s a somewhat lesser-known fact about TireBuyer employees: we’re also huge soccer fans. A quick look around the office and it becomes pretty obvious – the colorful soccer scarves draped over cubicle walls, employees sporting soccer jerseys, soccer balls in offices and conference rooms … we were even lucky enough to enjoy a few World Cup viewing parties as we worked away over the summer.

While we love soccer in general, we’re especially fond of our hometown MLS team, Seattle Sounders FC. That’s why we’re so excited to announce that TireBuyer.com is now the Official Tire Retailer of the Seattle Sounders!

Here’s a brief history of the Sounders: The team was originally founded in 1974 as part of the now-defunct North American Soccer League (NASL). Even in those early days, the Sounders enjoyed great popularity in Seattle, hosting the first sellout crowd in NASL history. But hard times eventually set in, and the team folded in 1983; the league followed shortly thereafter. The Sounders made a comeback in 1994 as part of the American Professional Soccer League, and in 1997 became a member of the United Soccer Leagues First Division.

In 2007, Major League Soccer announced that Seattle would receive an MLS expansion team in 2009. This is the Seattle Sounders FC as we know it today. The MLS Sounders played their inaugural match in March 2009, and ever since, the team has set records for attendance, led the league in season ticket sales, and qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs every year. The Sounders won the prestigious U.S. Open Cup for the first time in 2009, and have repeated that win in 2010, 2011, and once again this year, after beating the Philadelphia Union 3-1 in extra time. Sounders FC forward Clint Dempsey is captain of the U.S. national team, which earned new supporters all over the world earlier this year with its strong performance at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Sounders play at CenturyLink Field, which is also home to our other favorite team, the World Champion Seattle Seahawks. There are just a few games left in the Sounders’ regular season. If the team continues to dominate, they could win the Supporter’s Shield, which would give the team home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Our fingers are certainly crossed for the Sounders, as we’d love to see them battle it out on the home turf.

At this weekend’s match against Chivas USA, our TireBuyer digital signs will appear in CenturyLink Field during the game for the first time. If you’re in the stadium or watching on TV, be on the lookout for the Continental Tire/TireBuyer.com signs around the stadium.

When it’s us versus them,

you can always count on me

When it’s us versus them,

it’s a Sounders unity
